Can't find what you're looking for? Search and request materials from MOBIUS member libraries across the region.
Interlibrary loan (ILL) allows you to borrow books, journal articles, and other materials from libraries across the United States. Interlibrary loan is a great option if you cannot find your materials through the MCC-Maple Woods Library catalog or online resources. This service is available to all MCC students and employees. Requesting items from our MOBIUS catalog is always free, but there may be fees for other types of interlibrary loans. The library will advise you of any fee before ordering an item for you.
MCC is a member of MOBIUS and other library consortia and participates in OCLC, an international bibliographic database and lending service. Persons not affiliated with MCC should contact their local public library or academic library to inquire about ILL services.
If you have any questions, ask a librarian!
To access your library account, click on "My Library Account" on the MCC Libraries homepage. Your library account allows you to see what books you currently have checked out, materials you have requested via interlibrary loan, and more! You can also renew books that are nearing their due dates as long as the materials are eligible for renewal.
Your library account login is different from your MyMCCKC login. When logging into your library account, you will enter your first and last name and unique campus ID. Your unique campus ID is your student number without the "S" followed by MCC in all caps. For example, if your name is Jane Doe and your S# is S1234567, you would enter the following login credientials:
Name: Jane Doe
Unique Campus ID: 1234567MCC
(see screen shot below for example)
You will also use this unique campus ID to request books via interlibrary loan, as well as to borrow ebooks and audiobooks using Overdrive.
MOBIUS is a consortium of libraries across Missouri, Kansas, Iowa, Oklahoma, and Texas that is dedicated to providing access to shared information resources, services, and expertise. The consortium’s purpose is to share library materials, information, and services using accessible, cost effective methods. The MOBIUS catalog contains over 29 million items, making it an excellent resource when you are in need of an item your campus library does not have. Check out the video below to learn how to find and request items using the MOBIUS catalog!
What is Interlibrary Loan?
Interlibrary Loan (ILL) is a system which allows library patrons to obtain books from other libraries.
Who may use this service?
Students and employees of Metropolitan Community College may use this service. MCC is a member of MOBIUS and other library consortia and participates in OCLC, an international bibliographic database and lending service. Persons not affiliated with MCC should contact their local public library or academic library to inquire about ILL services.
What can be obtained through Interlibrary Loan?
ILL usually involves books and articles from magazines, newspapers, and journals. Reference materials, nonprint items, and entire issues of journals are generally not available through Interlibrary Loan.
How long does it take?
Delivery time varies due to distance, courier services, and item availability. Items generally arrive in around 3-5 business give or take, but can take longer depending on where the item is coming from. Plan ahead and order early to ensure that needed materials arrive in time.
What does it cost?
KC-Towers and MOBIUS loans are always free, but there may be fees for other types of interlibrary loans. The library will advise you of any fee before ordering an item.
How do I pick up ILL items?
You will be notified through your student email when the item arrives in the library.
How long may I keep the item?
The return date will be marked on each item. Items should be returned to MCC-Maple Woods Library on time to avoid charges. Most ILL materials are note eligible for renewal. Renewal policies are set by the lending library, not MCC-Maple Woods Library.
How do I order materials through ILL?
Requests from MOBIUS can be made directly from the MOBIUS online catalog. Other ILL requests must be made at the Circulation Desk. Contact the library for details.
As part of the MOBIUS interlibrary loan agreement, the replacement fee for lost or damaged books is set at $100 replacement fee, plus a $20 processing fee per book. This dollar amount has been negotiated by MOBIUS member libraries and was chosen to offset the rising cost of scholarly works. While some libraries may accept an exact replacement copy of the book in lieu of the replacement fee, others will not. The decision to accept a replacement copy is made entirely by the owning library and the Maple Woods Library has no say in this decision. Please treat borrowed items with great care to avoid this expense.
