Welcome to the course guide for Dr. Ayanna Bridges' Comm 100 class. This guide will help you find, cite, and evaluate sources so you are prepared to complete your librarian source check assignment.
Click on the Finding and Evaluating Sources tab for some general tips on what sources are useful for which topics, as well as some general videos on search strategy. Then navigate to Books, Articles, or Websites to learn more about finding and evaluating that type of source.
Finally, to cite those sources, click on Citing and consult the resources for MLA citation.
Below this box are some tips for preparing for your library visit.
Depending on your class size and how close you are to conferences, expect a line at the reference desk.
You may be sent back to find better sources, so give yourself plenty of time.
Get your sources checked before using those sources in your speech, in case librarians do not approve them.
Database sources have a better chance of being approved quickly than web sources - try databases before Google!
You can meet with a librarian in person during library hours from 8:00 am to 7:00 pm Mondays through Thursdays.
Be aware that there may be some wait time. If you don't want to wait, you can always schedule a virtual appointment. Be sure you are scheduling an appointment with a Maple Woods librarian.
