From the MCCKC library page, find "Search online catalogs and databases". Select "KC Towers online catalog"
From the drop down menu, select the campus
Enter the search terms to find an eBook on the subject you would like to locate and a list of resources will be brought to you. The items with a burgundy icon next to them are eBooks.
Once you find an eBook that you want, click "MCC Online Access".
Along with the book information there will be a "PDF Full Text" on the left; selecting it will open the book on your screen.
You will need to have an EBSCOhost account to download an eBook or email an eBook to yourself. It is both free and easy to create an account.
To create an EBSCO Account, you will need to go to the EBSCO eBook Collection database. Then select "Sign In" on the top navigation bar of the home page or eBook record within EBSCO.
You will be taken to a log-in page that has the option to create a new account:
Select "Sign up" and follow the instructions to create an EBSCO account. Once you have created the account, you will have a username and password that you can use to retrieve eBooks that you have emailed to yourself.
When accessing an eBook through EBSCO, you may want to email the eBook to yourself. This allows you to access the eBook at a later time without having to go through the search process again. The option to email the eBook is under the "Tools" navigation pane on the right side of the web page.
When you click on the hyperlink within the email, you are taken to a page that asks for a username and password to open the eBook.
However, if you do not have an account with EBSCO, you will not be able to retrieve the eBook from the email that you send. Unfortunately there is no option to create an account on the sign-in page linked through the email you receive. You can follow the directions in the "Create an EBSCO account" box above to be able to sign in.
It may be more convenient for you to download the eBook to your desktop or laptop. The following details how to do that.
In order to read downloaded eBooks on your desktop or laptop, you will have to install a program to your computer called "Adobe Digital Editions" or an equivalent. There is a link available from the EBSCO eBook page or you can access it here: Adobe Digital Editions.
Download to your computer:
You can find the book you wish to download using the MCCKC catalog (see earlier instructions) and select "Sign In" from the blue bar at the top of that page.
Once "Sign In" is selected, you have the option of logging in, or creating your new account. If you haven't logged in before, create your new EBSCOhost account by providing the requested information.
Once you are signed in to EBSCO, have Adobe Digital Editions installed on your desktop or laptop, and on the catalog record of the eBook you want; select "Full Download" from the menu on the left. You will have the option of downloading the eBook to your computer for up to 21 days. This will allow you access to the book even when your computer is not online. Once the check out period has ended the book will automatically disappear.
