MLA and APA Citation Styles

This guide provides printable handouts for two citation styles: MLA (Modern Language Association) style and APA (American Psychological Association) style.       

MLA citation style is generally used by disciplines in the liberal arts and humanities. The current official manual is the MLA Handbook, 9th edition, published in 2021 and available in the MCC libraries. 

APA citation style is most commonly used within the social sciences, including psychology and education. Its official manual is the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (APA)7th edition, published in 2020 and available in the MCC libraries. 

Basic Rule:  When citing your sources, always follow the requirements of your instructor.
