Screening of the film Against All Odds: Surviving the Holocaust

  • Dates: Wed Aug 28 and Thu Aug 29
  • Times: Screenings both days at 8:00, 9:30, 11:00, 12:30, and 2:00. 
  • Place: Room EC006/007
    • Holocaust survivors tell their stories of the concentration camps and the living amongst the general population.  The film puts a focus on the fantastic luck survivors needed to make it through the war.

 

GESTAPO: A Learning Experience About the Holocaust

  • This is a learning experience in which students try to avoid the Gestapo and death in WWII Europe.  They can choose to risk things like their house, community, job, pride, family, and civil liberties to make it to the end of the activity alive.  E-mail Michael Korklan to schedule the activity for your class section(s)

 

Arie Monroe, Kansas City Comic Artist

  • Dates: Wed Oct 16 Thu Oct 17
  • Times: 11:00 a.m. both days
  • Place: Room EC006/007
    • Arie will discuss her personal journey in becoming a professional comic artist, as well as the importance of drawing and telling the stories of marginalized people and populations.  She’ll also do a live sketch of a volunteer student!

 

Panel discussion- the impacts of war and trauma

  • Date, time and location TBD.
    • What happens to people born into generational war?  How does that create states like Israel and Palestine?  Experts on various aspects of these issues will discuss their perspectives with each other and our students.
