Finding Images for PowerPoint Presentations

The following web sites can be useful for locating images to use in Power Point Presentations. Be sure to cite your source!

Images fall under the same copyright protections as written publicatiosn. To use a copyright protected image you must consider if that use falls under fair use.
 
Fair Use of copyrighted materials for educational purposes is determined by four factors:
  1. The Transformative Factor
  2. Nature of the Copyrighted Work
  3. The Amount and Substantiality of the Portion Taken
  4. The Effect of the Use Upon the Potential Market
 

How do I cite a picture for my PowerPoint presentation MLA?

You can either include the citation information in your Works Cited list on the last slide of your PowerPoint, or you can provide the citation in small font at the bottom of the slide.

Images

Author/Artist (if available). Description or title of image. Date of creation, Name of the institution that houses the work, location of the institution. Name of the website, url. Date of access. 

Note: you can include the medium or materials of the artwork if it is important to the end of the citation, but it is not required to cite.

Digital Files (JPEG, PDF, MP3, etc)

Give the author's name, the name of the work, the date of creation, and the location. Put the digital file format at the end of the entry.
